PORT ST. LUCIE — Two children were injured in a crash in the St. Lucie West area tonight, according to Port St. Lucie police.

A PT Cruiser ran through a stop sign at the intersection of Topaz Way and Torino Parkway after 9 p.m. and hit a Nissan Pathfinder head on, said police spokesman Tom Nichols.

Two children in the Pathfinder, aged 6 and 9, were flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center with neck and head injuries. The extent of their injuries was unclear tonight.

The mother of the children, who was driving the Pathfinder, was taken to a local hospital by ambulance. The extent of her injuries was also unclear.

The driver of the PT Cruiser was unharmed, Nichols said. The crash is under investigation.
