Fort Pierce woman charged over 911-McNuggets flap

The McNugget meltdown happened last week at a McDonald’s in the 600 block of North U.S. 1 and ended with Latreasa Goodman, 27, getting a notice to appear on a misuse of 911 charge, according to a recently released police report.
“This is an emergency, If I would have known they didn’t have McNuggets, I wouldn’t have given my money, and now she wants to give me a McDouble, but I don’t want one,” Goodman had told police, according to Tcpalm.com. “This is an emergency.”
Goodman told investigators she tried to get a refund for the 10-piece McNuggets, but the cashier told her all sales are final. “I called 911 because I couldn’t get a refund, and I wanted my McNuggets,” Goodman told police.

I think the whole thing is silly and could have been remedied easily, had the manager, the cashier, or even this customer stopped to think how trivial this thing was. Some things you just don’t do and calling 911 about Nuggets is just a stupid thing to do. And to the one who wants to pin her hair brained stunt on a race of people you are just as stupid. She didn’t do this b/c she’s black, she did this b/c she has a loose screw somewhere. Stupidty crosses the race lines, and no race including the one you belong to is exempt. Before you try and throw your little racial slurs out, look at all the stupidty that goes on in your own race, before you decide to call out a race of people based on the actions of one individual!

To the first two comments, It really doesnt matter if she was black, blue, green or purple. 911 is to be used for emergencies.

Race has nothing to do with it and what a terrible attitude “Yourkidding” has, any nut whatever color would probably due this - rather then having called 911, I would have just called the non-emergency line of the local police department and requested an officer come to the establishment to make take a report if the refund wasn’t given. Using 911 for this is pretty ridiculous.

Whether black or white she should not have called 911 but she did have the right to call the police.When something has been paid for & is suddenly”unavailable” it is wrong. Had she done something like that to the restaurant they would charge her with “defrauding an innkeeper” & I am NOT joking. As for being able to tell her race by her name; untrue! I voted for our president not because he is black but because he IS the best man for the position. That has nothing to do with his skin color.

The person is definitely stupid for using 911 for that problem. Let’s face it folks, everyone has been taught what 911 is supposed to be used for (emergencies). Perhaps that is why she called the police. It would have seemed like the best solution if she wasn’t able to get her money back. Would you have walked away from your money. No. Latreasa reasoned that instead of yelling and making a scene (just as white folks expect) she would find another more subtle way to deal with this. To diffuse the situation she called the authorities. Yes I admit when I first heard the headline I thought it was ridiculous and not even newsworthy however after reading her reasoning I think she made a good decision.
My concern is why did she have to call them three times. Was the 9-1-1 operator hanging up on her instead of transferring her to a non-emergency number or is it because like “Yourkidding” the Ft. Pierce police assumed that she was “black” & wasn’t a priority and didn’t come?

I am a very educated 25 year old black woman with a Bachelor of Legal Sciences.. No children…. Making it on my own…. The McNugget’s woman did something really stupid, no matter who she is, no matter what race or education level. Common sense doesn’t belong to any race or education level.
And.. why hasn’t anyone else caught this? It makes no sense that the manager at MickeyDee’s wouldn’t refund her money. He/she has that discretion. I know, because something similar happened to me. I had ordered a salad and after I’d paid was told they “didn’t have any”. I was offered another choice, but I don’t eat meat and declined asking for my money back. The person at the drive up window said she couldn’t do it, as she was only a server. She invited me to talk to the manager. I did, he immediately refunded my money. It was annoying to have to come inside, but it resolved the matter.

It’s illegal for McDonalds to not refund her the money - they didn’t provide the the item she was paying. The police nabbed the wrong person.
When the police answer the none emergency number as often and with respect for the callers, they will continue to get these “non-emergency” calls that the public makes.
In Ca, they legally use 911 for broken down cars and directions… go figure

While if true that the manager refused a refund, there are more sensible ways of settling this issue than calling 911. McDonalds has a customer complaint number she could have called for example. Furthermore, police agencies have non-emergency numbers that you can call. Save 911 for real emergencies.

Latreasa has a legitimate gripe, McDonalds should have a protocol to handle these sort of problems. obviously they handled it wrong and Latreasa was to quick to react without thought of repercussion by calling 911. That is why they came up with, “learn by your mistakes”, McDonalds caused the mistake to be made.

As a senior manager of a fast food place, all of our managers have the ability to refund a purchase if we are out of a product. I am sure that once the store manager was made aware of the situation, the manager on duty at the time was coached on the correct proceedure for handling that situation. It may have been policy to encourage the customer to choose something else, but was misunderstood by the “shift manager” on duty at the time. Fast food workers and even their managers, are human beings, not trash. They take a lot of crap from their bosses, and are in a high stress job. They make crap for pay, and cannot accept tips. Just remember, in this economy, you may be working there soon yourselves, since in our buisness, things are quite good right now. We are people, and we have good days and bad and we even have a brain fart or two.
And while I have the open forum…
PLEASE do not smoke ciagarettes at the payment window of a drive through. In some states, like New York for example, it is actually illegal. Many of the workers there are not smokers, and are subjected to your second hand smoke. Being at a drive through window, is just like being inside. We can smell the smoke all the way across the restraunt.

As this woman was obviously in need of something. Calling 911 was just plain stupid. Let us not forget the fact that there is a number you can call if you have any problems. But 911 is for legitimate emergencies. Not because some dumb woman did not get her fried chicken chunks.
I bet she will learn from her mistakes as she was arrested for misuse of Emergency Services.
Maybe people would leave the racial thing alone if she weren’t just another in a long line in stupid 911 calls involving the same race. Maybe if she could speak English properly people would not laugh quite so hard. Maybe if when they interviewed her on the news she did not come off like straight ghetto trash people would get off of it. That’s why they have NON-EMERGENCY numbers. People are being killed and raped every day. I don’t think a $3 refund is quite on the same level. I’m sure some of YOU who’ve responded supporting this woman would disagree, which says something about you as well. But it’s cool, go ahead and call 911 if it happens to you - that way instead of a $3 “emergency” you’ll be having a court date and a few-hundred-dollar “emergency.”

I work in law enforcement and on one level, yes, she had a legitimate complaint. She asked for and should have received a refund if the product she wanted was not available. But to call 911 is a gross misuse of the legal system, 911 is designed for people who are in immediate danger, possible life and death situations. and no way does this situation fit that criteria. She should, indeed, be reprimanded for taking up valuable and possibly precious minutes from someone who might really have needed it.

This, like all the Post’s “Comments” sections, is pathetic. We have people calling each other names, criticizing spelling (like Dreadlocks’ comment ‘don’t take talk’ when he meant ‘don’t talk’) and making racist remarks in both directions!
For the record, if Barack Obama is half white, his children are not ‘all black.’ Even more for the record, who cares?
The woman was being robbed by McDonald’s. She had a cellphone and used it to dial 911. Who else should she have called? She wasn’t lugging around a phone book to look up the local non-emergency number.
I predict the charges will be dropped, McDonalds will give her a lot of coupons for free food, and the racists and idiots on this site will post irrelevant comments on the next story.
Finally, yes you can type any way you like, “HONEY,” but using uppercase (capital) letters is the equivalent of shouting when posting online, so it’s just rude and low class. I expect better from a fine black woman with a master’s degree!
