Police: Man, 75, tackles 230-lbs. thief
February 23rd, 2009 by Ana X. CeronSTUART — A 75-year-old man helped police nab the six-foot-one, 230-lbs. thief who allegedly stole his laptop outside Best Buy on Sunday.
The man was outside the electronics store on U.S. 1 at about 12:15 p.m. with his laptop and printer, waiting for his wife to pick him up at the curb, Stuart police said.
But while he was waiting, Samuel D. Jarvis snatched the computer, police said. The man chased 29-year-old Jarvis and tackled him when off-duty police Officer Don Kelly saw the struggle and jumped in, police spokesman Sgt. Marty Jacobson said.
Jarvis is at the Martin County jail on $12,500 bail, facing charges of robbery and battery on a person older than 65.
