Stuart woman jailed on grand theft charge

February 4th, 2009 by TCPalm.com

— A woman has been accused of robbing a man after inviting him into her home last month, according to an affidavit released Tuesday by the Martin County Sheriff.

Dorthea Wayman, 53, has been charged with robbery and grand theft.

The affidavit says the victim was near the corner of U.S. 1 and Salerno Road at 3 a.m. on Jan. 10 when a car with a male driver pulled up to him with Wayman in the passenger seat.

The man offered the victim a ride and the victim accepted. He drove Wayman and the victim to a house in the 4400 block of 46th Avenue and left them there.

Wayman then invited the victim into the house. When they went inside, the report says Wayman grabbed the victim’s wallet and stole $1,000 from him.

The victim grabbed Wayman’s Florida ID card as he left the house and later presented it to investigators.

Wayman was booked into the Martin County Jail on Monday and is being held in lieu of $20,000 bond.
