Pair arrested in connection with string of car burglaries
January 30th, 2009 by Ana X. CeronMartin County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two Broward County residents in connection with a string of vehicle burglaries reported on Thursday.
The vehicles were all parked outside the Grand Island Athletic Club on the corner of U.S. 1 and Indian Street.
A witness told investigators that he heard breaking glass as he walked into the parking lot. When he looked around, he saw a gold Lincoln leaving the lot.
Deputy Doug Cruz later found the car driving on U.S. 1 in Hobe Sound.
When the car was pulled over, Lauderhill resident Maurice Antwan Anderson-Phillips was driving and Robin Crosley, of Fort Lauderdale, was with him.
Cruz said he found a stolen laptop, several cell phones and other items inside the car.
When questioned, Anderson-Phillips told a few different stories about why he had the stolen items, according to sheriff’s reports. At one point he said he purchased the items knowing that they were stolen but was going to try to return them to their owners.
Crosley told deputies she had seen Anderson-Phillips leave the car and return carrying items such as cell phones and a laptop.
Deputies said Anderson-Phillips had a bloody cut on his right wrist and what looked like small shards of glass embedded on the bottom of his shoes.
Anderson-Phillips, 28, and Crosley, 20, are being held in the Martin County jail without bond. They both faces multiple charges of grand theft, criminal mischief and burglary.

Great job deputy Cruz! I am honored to be a citizen of Martin county, because of these great men and women in green. Outstanding police work.
