STUART — A man who deputies said fled from them after he was arrested in connection with a burglary was caught after authorities searched hours for him, and he now faces a felony charge for the escape on Wednesday night.

Zacharay L. Weir, 20, is accused of breaking into a woman’s Coral Gardens home on Wednesday and stealing $1,890 worth of her things.

When the woman reported the theft to Martin County Sheriff’s deputies, she named Weir as a possible suspect, according to a sheriff’s report.

Deputies showed up at Weir’s home in the 5300 block of Schooner Oak Way, where they found the woman’s bicycle in his open garage and one of her televisions in his room, they said.

The woman asked Weir why he didn’t ask permission to take the bicycle and he told her had just borrowed it, according to the report.

Weir was handcuffed and as deputies were going over the list of items that were reported stolen, he ran off into a wooded lot, deputies said.

Hours later, Weir was found behind pool equipment at a home in the 3400 block of Kubin Avenue.

Weir is being held at the Martin County jail on bail of $15,000. He faces felony charges of burglary, theft and escape.
