Deputies: Man robbed, burglarized three senior citizens
January 6th, 2009 by Ana X. CeronSTUART — A Jensen Beach man accused of barging into the home of two senior citizens will face more charges after deputies said they have linked him to a burglary involving a 96-year-old woman.
Martin County Sheriff’s detectives said Tuesday they were able to link Jeffery Servidio, 57, to the burglary of a woman’s Pine Lake Village condo reported last month.
He faces an additional grand theft charge after he confessed to burglarizing a Jensen Beach Boulevard thrift store, sheriff’s Det. Carlo Sciandra said.
According to sheriff’s deputies, Servidio confronted an 89-year-old woman and an 82-year-old man last week. The woman scared him away by screaming for help, and the man reported $112 stolen, deputies said.
Surveillance video at River Club Condominiums — where the elderly man lives — showed a white pickup driving away around the time of the theft.
Investigators used that description to find Servidio on Friday, arrest him on a drivers’ license violation and later question him on the robberies.
Once at the Martin County Jail, Servidio told investigators he burglarized Maggie’s Junque and Books at 843 N.E. Jensen Beach Boulevard last month, Sciandra said.
He also said he had been sober for several years but recently relapsed and was stealing to get cash to buy crack cocaine, according to deputies.
“He seems remorseful, and he’s cooperating with us,” Sciandra said, standing before a table covered with jewelry, knives and a handgun stolen from the store and found at Servidio’s home.
Detectives were also able to link the man to a Dec. 22 burglary where a 96-year-old woman was grabbed from the back and told to hand over her cash. The woman told deputies she gave the intruder between $600 and $700 she had stowed in her dresser.
