Deputies arrest suspect in two home invasions
January 5th, 2009 by Ana X. CeronJENSEN BEACH — A Jensen Beach man faces felony robbery charges after telling deputies he broke into people’s homes and stole money in order to buy crack, deputies say.
Jeffery Servidio was at the Martin County Jail on $52,750 bail this morning after encounters with two elderly Jensen Beach residents last week.
One 89-year-old woman told Martin County Sheriff’s deputies a man had pushed her inside her home in the 1200 block of Northwest 21st Street after she answered the door New Year’s Day morning, according to sheriff’s reports.
The man ran off in a white pickup after she screamed for help, she told investigators.
The following day, deputies got a call from an 82-year-old man who said a man had barged inside his home when he answered the door on Friday morning.
The man said the robber took $62 the senior citizen had in his wallet and a $50 bill he intended to mail to his granddaughter, the reports state.
The thief then demanded that the resident stay in the bathroom while he fled, deputies said.
Video surveillance at the residential complex where the second homeowner lives showed the truck the suspect drove that day, the reports state.
Later that day, Detective Carlo Sciandra used the video to arrest Jeffery Servidio, 57, in connection with both incidents.
Servidio told investigators he was having financial problems and needed money to buy crack cocaine, deputies said. He told deputies he used a business card to claim he was an electrician looking for work.
