Cross-dressing robber arrested on purse snatching charge

PORT ST. LUCIE — Police have arrested a man they say disguised himself with a wig, skirt and fake breasts while he robbed an elderly woman in September, police spokesman Sgt. Robert Vega said.
The 74-year-old Port St. Lucie woman was outside of a Sears Essentials on Sept. 2 when Stacy A. Scott, 18, knocked her down to the ground and snatched her purse, police said.
The victim believed her robber was a woman until a witness pointed out that a water-filled condom had popped out of the thief’s tube top, police said. The sock-wrapped condom was being used as a fake breast.
Investigators say they found Scott after reviewing the charges on the woman’s stolen credit cards. One of the cards went to pay a cell phone bill. Police used that information to trace phone records to Scott, who was in jail in Orange County on unrelated charges.
On Friday, Port St. Lucie police interviewed Scott, who did not say why he and two other men dressed as women for the robbery, Sgt. Leo Niemczyk.
Scott faces charges of battery on an elderly person and robbery stemming from the incident.
Police are still looking for the other suspects.
