Police: Man hides corn dogs in pants, returns beer and escapes

December 12th, 2008 by TCPalm.com

— A man accused of jamming pilfered corn dogs in his pants before leaving a grocery store with a stolen 18-pack of Bud Light was thwarted by a loss prevention officer, but still managed to get away, according to a police report released Monday.

A loss prevention officer at Publix in the 3200 block of Southwest Port St. Lucie Boulevard told police she saw a tall, unshaven man come in about 6 p.m. Saturday.

The 42-year-old loss prevention officer watched the man pull a $6 pack of State Fair Corn Dogs from the freezer aisle and stick them in the front of his pants.

After grabbing an 18-pack of Bud Light, valued at $12, the man, described as about 6 feet 1 inch tall, 175 pounds and in his early to mid 20s, left the store.

He returned when the loss prevention officer asked him to, putting the beer down near the exit. He pushed an assistant customer service manager out of the way and apparently ran off.
