Fort Pierce offers crime mapping service online

December 4th, 2008 by Ana X. Ceron

A new Web site can help Fort Pierce residents keep track of crime in the city.

Launched by the city’s police department, the service can send someone an e-mail alert whenever a crime takes place by their home, office or local school. It can also show maps of where crimes have taken place throughout the city limits, police said.

The site can be accessed through the police department’s Web site, www.fppd.org, by clicking on a link at the bottom right hand side of the screen under the Crime Reports heading. It is available now and free to the public.

Crime incident data is updated nightly and includes: incident type, date, location, distance from citizen’s address, event identification or case number and brief crime incident description, said Crime Analyst April Lee.

Residents must sign up to receive the e-mail alerts.

The .org link to the Ft.Pierce Police is incorrect. There is no site under that name.
