Love Doctors kick off annual Marathon Toy Drive on Treasure Coast, Palm Beaches on Tuesday
December 2nd, 2008 by TCPalm.comReal Radio’s The Love Doctors, Rich Dickerson and Glenn Curtis, will kick off their 15th Marathon Toy Drive today from Waldo’s Restaurant at the historic Driftwood Resort in Vero Beach and end Thursday at 88 Keys Piano & Tiki Bar in Palm Beach Gardens.
Joined by co-host Lexxus and producer Luke, the Love Docs will take calls nonstop at each location for 12 hours on WZZR 94.3 FM and WCZR 101.7 FM. They’re also streamed live at www.wzzr.com.
With a goal of helping about 8,000 children already registered to receive toys, a relentlessly upbeat Dickerson said he knows the shaky economy and a weakened job market could make their job tougher this year.
“It’s going to be interesting to see what the economy does to us,” he said. “But history has shown us that when the chips are down, Americans really come through with donations so maybe we’ll be in good shape — we’ll just have to give it our best shot.”
Throughout both marathons, the Docs and their guests, including “Dr. John” and TV personalities Curt Fonger and Steve Weagle, will chat it up with callers as they do during their regular show.
During last year’s toy drive, the Love Doctors Charities raised a record-setting $250,000.
“If I could meet that,” Dickerson said, smiling, “I’d be really happy.”
If you can’t get to one of the marathons, there are still several ways to donate:
- Visit www.lovedoctors.org to donate cash or buy a $10 raffle ticket, with a grand prize of $10,000. A winner will be chosen Dec. 19.
- Go to any BankAtlantic and donate to “The Love Doctors Charities: Toy Drive Account. ”
- An eBay auction runs through Dec. 4.
Parents with only children preregistered for toys will be able to make their selections Dec. 13 at the Toy Shop at Roger Dean stadium on Donald Ross Road in Jupiter.
Volunteers still are being sought for that event.
