PORT ST. LUCIE — A police officer and another driver were both injured in an early morning crash today, according to police.

Officer Keith Carrier was driving south at about 2 a.m. today on Port St. Lucie Boulevard when another vehicle, a gray 2007 Nissan Altima, attempted to turn left from northbound Port St. Lucie Boulevard onto Southwest Firestone Avenue and crashed into him, according to police.

The driver of the Nissan, Edwin Montes, of Port St. Lucie, was treated and released at the St. Lucie Medical Center. Carrier is still being treated for his injuries at St. Lucie Medical Center, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police believe alcohol may have played a role in the accident, but still are investigating. No arrests have been made, and toxicology reports have not come back yet.

Carrier has been employed by the police department for two years.
