About 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Fort Pierce Police officers charged Michael Sams, of the 4400 block of Timber Ridge Lane, after he allegedly choked the woman, report states.

The woman told police she and Sams were arguing when he threw her on the bed, jumped on top of her and placed both hands around her neck, choking her. Next, Sams allegedly grabbed a pillow and placed it over her face to muffle her screams. The woman said she continued struggling with Sams and kicked him in the groin, which allowed her to get away. Officers said the woman had large patches of bruising on her neck, fingerprints on her right forearm and fingernail marks on the woman’s neck.

As of Saturday, Sams, whom police said was recently released from prison for second degree murder, is in St. Lucie County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
