53 People Arrested in St. Lucie Drug Sting

November 1st, 2008 by Cara Fitzpatrick

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office arrested 53 people Friday on drug charges and seized 3,000 prescription pills, according to a sheriff’s office report.

For the last three months officers have been investigating people who get prescription drugs illegally by forging phony prescriptions or getting the same prescription from several different doctors, also known as “doctor shopping.”

These drugs found their way into drug deals on the streets of St. Lucie County and sheriff’s detectives also targeted those dealers.

The 53 people arrested as part of the sting, dubbed Operation Bad Medicine, have been charged with a total of 98 charges including drug possession. Detectives are still looking for another 15 people on similar charges, according to the report.
